Ancestral Memories
Ancestral Memories is born from a deep commitment to preserve, strengthen, and pass on to future generations the cultural and historical richness of the Pataxó people. More than a book, this work is the result of a collective movement to reclaim and value traditional knowledge that, for centuries, has sustained the identity, spirituality, and resistance of this people.
Over time, songs, rituals, stories, games, and knowledge were transmitted orally and through community life. However, the impacts of colonization, territorial invasions, prejudice, and the pressures of modernity put much of this knowledge at risk. The project began with the recovery of traditional songs that were being lost, but quickly expanded, bringing together masters, leaders, and elders.
